comparing two databases

Hi all,
My working environemt is Oracle 8i on NT. I need to compare two
different databases and the similarity and differences between them.
For example I need to check tables, sequences, etc. Now I know that I
could use the create link in Orale 8i to do that. I have created the
link but when I query the database I am getting TNS error.
In addition I need to check the two databases and their data as well.
Is this possible in Oracle 8i.
Any thoughts or suggestions will be of great help.
