Re-transmission count

I got one 'little' problem with my network.
On one part there is LAN connected with other LAN thrue modem link 33.6.
Everithing is OK until transactions grow up capacity of the telephone line.
At this moment my client get 'EOF communication chanal' error and stop my
program.
ORACLE manual sais that I need to change
re-transmission count in my TCP/IP.
So if anybody know something about this problem,
please share that with me.
