Hi Websurfer:

The site below may be of use to you for some learning, so take a look. (It's specific to Oracle on NT, but many of the same rules apply for all of the other platforms supported by Oracle.) Be prepared, server databases (like Oracle, Informix, DB/2, Sybase, etc.) are not at all like desktop databases such as dBase, Foxpro, Access, etc. If you can master it (and you actually like the self-torture :> ), you can be worth quite a bit on the technology market.

As far as training vs. experience, I believe they are both equally important and feed each other. Will a company hire you with a certification but no experience? With the global shortage of IT people, the answer is probably "yes", although you won't get an experienced person's salary until you get an experienced person's experience. Don't at all be discouraged, though: everyone has done something the first time at least once!
