How do I connect SQLPlus to Oracle 8 ?

Hi folks,

I recently purchased Oracle Lite and Personal Oracle8 and installed them on my pc running win95. When I try to start SQLPlus 3.3 (which is part of Oracle Lite), with the login name /password as scott/tiger, I get the error:

ERROR: ORA-03121: no interface driver connected - function not performed

Enter user-name:

When I input the same scott/tiger combination, I again get this error. Ditto for system/manager and sys/manager inputs. Error ORA-03121 is due to "SQL*Net driver not loaded into memory or there is a mismatch in the version of the driver" (from Oracle error message list).

Is SQL*Net required to connect an Oracle server and client process even if the server and client are on the same machine ?

If not, how do I get SQLPlus to connect to the server process ?

If SQL*Net is required, do I have to set up a listener process also ?
