A brief perusal of the Oracle8 Migration book gleaned the following:
You can use export/import from V6 to V8. Can't use migration utility below
7.1.4.
SQL*Net V1 cannot work with V8.
V6 OCI libraries not supported against V8 db.
So yes, it is possible. The difficulty is determined by what you have.
