If you are looking for benchmark comparisons, the only real place to look is the TPC organization. That is found at http://www.tpc.org. They perform regular benchmarks between various RDBMS systems and come up with overall performance numbers based on TPC-written benchmarks. Other than that, an in-house evaluation of your own at your firm would be the 2nd best to judge which is the "fastest".

Besides fast, you need much more from a vendor. You need to have solid products outside of the RDBMS. You need to validate their tech support organizations. You also need to know whether the products they are offering match your company's business requirements and programming department's skill base.
