DBA? - export error 8 - DBA?

database release 7.14, DEC UNIX
I got an EXP-00008: ORACLE error 1406 encountered

ORA-01406: fetched column value was truncated when doing a table level export. Oracle said this was caused by a table comment being over 255 bytes. Does anyone have a work-a-round, I need to export several tables that have this problem and dont have permission from the users to truncate the comments.
