That's a good idea for general situations. If you're creating a general template, it's Ok. But if you're writing a program by hand and your table as a primary key based on a unique column, you can:

select *
from table
where primary_key > :last_retrieved_pk and order by primary_key

fetch how many rows you want (if you're creating a table browsing for HTML, for example) and register in :last_retrieved_pk the pk of the last rows fetched.

It's not so generic, but's faster. If you primary_key is based on two or more fields, it's not so easy to take advantage of the pk's index to speed up the solution.
