ODBC Error

Hello.
I am new to ORACLE, sorry.
Platform: Windows NT, hostname: NEWMEDIA.
I created a simple table using SQL + and populated some data in it.
The username is alex and the password is alex too.
I created ODBC data source on the NEWMEDIA:
Data Source name: students
User Name: alex
SQL * Net Connect String: p:NEWMEDIA
Then I tried to run ODBC Test:
Clicked on Connect,
Selected students,
User: alex
Password: alex
Connect String: p:NEWMEDIA
and got an error message,
"SQLSTATE: S1000
Native Error Code: 0
Driver Message: [Visigenic][ODBC ORACLE driver]Error attempting logon."
Could anyone please tell me what's wrong?
