In a further continuing saga, RAID 5 is something each site needs to evaulate. You need to weigh risk vs the type of system you have. On one of my HP systems, the performance impact is negligable and the safety is well worth it.

However on my other system, a datawarehouse, Mirroring is used because RAID 5 impacts the system.

Redundancy in all hardware for any location must be evaluated for pros and cons. RAID is just one of the many items on that checklist.
