We use a J30 too and decided to go away from RAID5. IBM has the
SSA-Disks. It is very quick and it wasn't expensive to buy twice the
disk-space (type is 7133 i think) and use RAID1(mirroring). There is
another possibility with RAID1 and SSA. It is to place one disk-system
at a remote location for disaster recovery purpuses.
The mirroring is done by AIX.
