There are many factors to making ORACLE perform very well. As you referenced in your message, caching all of the tables in the SGA will give you the fastest access time, but you still have to tune the instance to perform well. Do you have a budget for this kind of performance? Use a massively parallel processor box (16+) or a Connection Machine (1024). Use a Cray-YMP. There are many options, limited only by the dollars.
