We just brought up a new package with Oracle 7.1 as the database engine running on Sparc 1000E, Solaris 2.4 with Sparc Storage Array 100. The questions that I have related to what I have been told by our UNIX SA:

  1. The Sparc Storage Array 100 is not reliable to be used for mirroring. We are thinking of mirroring all of Oracle database files using the RAID, but since that is what we are told, we are not using it. Anybody with experience with RAID 100? The performance of using RAID 100 is also bad, again as we are told.
  2. The hotswap feature does not work well?
  3. If one of the device is bad, manual intervention is required to change to the mirrored device?
  4. What happens to Oracle if (3) is true? Does DBA need to bounce Oracle? How does Oracle react to this?

Anybody with answers to these questions, please let me know or call me at 818-354-0920 or leave me your name and phone and I will call you.

Thank you very much.
