You can use Oracle Call Interface OCX instead. You may take a look and download an evaluation copy including VB4 source code from http://www.sfi-software.com and look to for SQL-Sombrero/OCX for OCI (Oracle Call Interface). Simply require SQL*NET, not other software layers!
Nothing can be faster since you are in control to the OCI layer. Test it, you'll see.
