I have a situation, guys, and I'd appreciate it if you could advise me. I have a database server that is part of a larger system of machines. The server is recording information about various transactions. There are no other servers in the system. The server is a Dec Alpha Server 2000 4/233. The server will be servicing a great deal of SQL requests from the other machines in the system. The throughput is expected to be high, but not so high that the server is ever pressed for long periods of time. The amount of information that the server will be storing, updating, and supplying is large. There will be a variety of tables, and cross-tables, but not very much replication of data (we took care of this in the design). My question is: which is better, Oracle or Sybase? The main points of contention are price, difficulty to manage, difficulty to implement, and degree and number of design related issues that must be solved that are system dependant. Speed is not so important, although it is a factor.

Thanks.
