My understanding is that access ordering is still somewhat important to
eliminate possible contention, but Oracle will detect deadlocks and
resolve that conflict. Also, row-level locking is the default, but
problems can arise if table locks are allowed (newer versions prevent that
option), or if you are using distributed transactions you can introduct
table level (or index page locking) inadvertantly. Glad you are
concerned.... most wait until there is a *REAL* problem......
