I have successfully installed Oracle Workgroup server
and used it for several months.
Oracle's install script does not work.
I had to modify the install script that calls "orainst." I took out the
statement that said if you are logged in as root exit.
After that I installed the software from the distribution cdrom
as root. Then I compiled the software as root. Then I used
find /usr/oracle -exec chown oracle {}\;
to change ownership of all of the files in ORACLE_HOME
to the oracle user. Then I created the database as the Oracle owner.
IMHO Oracle's automated install scripts for SCO are much harder to deal with then the unix installpkg utility that I used to install 6.0.xx.
One problem is that the install script dies if you are not using a high resolution monitor. At least that is documented. But the script also decides that you are going to use a a vt100 an even if ORACLE_TERMINAL is not set to vt100; it sets it to vt100. It is pretty hard to work with when it wants you to press a PF1 key on your SCO console keyboard.
Once you get the Oracle installer installed correctly into ORACLE_HOME, it is a little easier.
If you need some help, I could telnet in and do the work for you.
. . . .
