By all means check that your patches are up to date. You didn't say whether the database was on UFS or raw disk. If they are on UFS then it would be sensible to tune the paging parameters in /etc/system. There is a very good tool called 'ruletool' which is available from Sun as an unsupported tool. I think it might be on the Sun home page. It has a GUI (Motif) interface and checks a number of system statistics.
