Problem Identification Checklist

Date/time: 01 / 11 / 95

  1. Which statement or which command causes the fault to occur? In PROCESS MODELLER selecting File->New and then trying to create a process. Moreover, any attempt (e.g. an attempt to create New Root Process, to change the level of hierarchy, or to select one of existing Business Functions leads to the same result).
  2. What result do you expect to get? Create a new process diagram.
  3. What result do you actually get, including the exact error message (number and text)? The mouse changes its view to "Sand clock", the message "Loading organisation units..." appears in lower string of the screen. Any key - pressings do not influence the state of the system. The state of the system remains unchanged as long as we can observe.
  4. Have other users in your organisation also experienced this fault? All of the users that work with our application experienced this fault.
  5. Have you carried out this operation for the first time? Not. When our application was smaller, we were able to perform that operation successfully. Now we have got a test application that allows to operate with PROCESS MODELLER successfully.
  6. Is this the first occurrence of the problem? Yes, this is.
  7. When did the operation last run without problems? It was about 3 weeks ago, at approximately 7th October.
  8. What has been changed since the last successful run? (hardware, operating system, Oracle software, application) Our application has grown. Now it includes 1060 business functions. The maximal level of function hierarchy is 10. The whole number of business units is 260. The maximal level of business unitsÃ’ hierarchy is 5.
  9. Other observations Other CASE-Oracle tools run successfuly

Oracle product & version: ORACLE Designer / 2000, Release 1.0 for Windows (version 6.0.6)
RDBMS version: 7.1.6

CPU type: Intel, 486 DX-2, 50 MHz

Operating system & version: WINDOWS 3.11 for Workgroups

Brief description: ORACLE Designer hangs up in PROCESS MODELLER enviroment, when
we try to create a new process diagram. The situation remains the same as when we try to
create New Root Process, as when we try to create a process based on one of existing
business functions

FIRST STEP We have upgraded our version of Designer/2000, so now the version 1.1 is installed. Actually
the number of bugs in that new version is smaller (for example, some errors in Repository
Object Navigator and in ER-diagrammer have been corrected). However, it is a pity, that our
problem remains the same.

SECOND STEP We have checked the presence of SHARE parameter. The SHARE parameter is used in our
autoexec.bat and not in the last line. In addition we have observed that the server sqldba
screen indicates that the client is INACTIVE at the time we try to run Process Modeller. Received on Sat Nov 25 1995 - 00:00:00 CET
