re relevance of Java, suppose you're using web browser as your front end to Oracle data. using java applets, it is very easy (without doing _any_ java programming in some cases) to add charting capabilities, etc. see, for example:

   http://gserver.grads.vt.edu/cgi-bin/wowtgd/hr.showDeptj? so, not only can a WWW front end sometimes replace Oracle Forms and Reports, but also Oracle Graph. java does more than add flavor and punch..it enables one to extend the client app (ie the browser) to meet specific needs.
