Passing variables between Forms (4.5)

I need to return a variable from a called form to the calling form.

I cannot use a GLOBAL variable as the value returned will be larger than 255. I have tried passing a parameter list, but this appears to be a one-way street (ie the value is INward only), is this correct ?

I am about to resort to storing the varibale in a database field and retreiving it on returning to the calling form, but I would rather do it all up at the client end.

Any clues ?
