OCI 7.2 allows asynchronous connections, and OCI 7.3 and Pro*C 2.2 will be thread-safe. OCI is Oracle's C API, by the way. OCI 7.2 is now production with 7.2 of the database on major platforms, and 7.3 is currently beta.
