To All Designer 2000 6.0.6 users,

Designer 2000 6.0.6 is the new Oracle Case under Windows. We recently tested two important tips to drastically improve Designer 2000 performance, that I would like to share with you all.

I. In the Module Data Diagrammer, IF NO DIAGRAM IS OPEN, then editing

information in the repository is much MUCH faster. You can do this    by selecting Edit..elements.. from the MDD menu. The elements that    you can select from the popup list that appears here are:

       MODULE
       TABLE/VIEW/SNAPSHOT
       FOREIGN KEY
       DETAILED USAGES
       SUMMARY USAGES
       ITEM GROUPS

This is much faster than having a module diagram open, and clicking on a    table to bring up the detailed usages/layout details etc.

II. Forms Generation: Do not invoke the forms generator from the MDD, the

generation is much slower from there. Command-line generation is the     FASTEST way to generate a form. A new icon need to be set up in windows,     with the command line as follows:

     cgen45.exe -a <application name> -n <form module short name> <repository
                                                          owner>/<password>

The forms generator starts, brings up the appl. name to reconfirm, askes
for the version, then works on the module name specified.

This is working, and the speed is definitely faster. The only extra
effort is that the command line must be changed manually for each module
to be generated. Perhaps Oracle will change this to allow the module name
to be entered interactively if just "cgen45.exe <repository owner>/
<password>" is used as the command line.
