We have an identical setup to you except we use DYNIX/ptx 4.0.2. Do not think this should make a great deal of difference - correct me if I'm wrong!!
Backup Sequent 7.1.6.2.0, have no problems with local loop-backs, going to and from main Sequent which has 7.1.4.1.0 installed and can NetTest from Windows 3.1 under Novell Netware 4.
Sorry can't really help you, but at least you know that it should work.
