Now back to the original question...
What is SPIN_COUNT?
I am only new to Oracle, but I have done a lot of reading and to date have not found a reference to SPIN_COUNT in Oracle DBA terms.
In the Informix product range SPIN_COUNT is a parameter that can be set to defer context switching when a process is waiting for access to a processor in an SMP environment. It is used within the OnLine evironment. If SPIN_COUNT is set to x the process with retry x times to attach to a processor before a context switch occurs.
I know this is a funny place for such a question and answer, but now you all know.
