We are using Oracle version 7.0.16 on an AIX platform and have discovered that the maximum size of the DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS is 65535. I have only found this documented in one place. In all other places that DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS is mentioned, it says there is no limit. Anyway, for AIX this limit has something to do with the maximum size of a memory segment. We called Oracle Technical Support and we were told that if we upgrade to version 7.1.6, this problem is solved. We now have 7.1.6, but we cannot find any documented explanation of how to get past the 65535 limit.

There is a discussion in the Oracle7 for UNIX Guide about changing the size of the shared memory segment. (SHMSIZE) According to our AIX Systems guy, there is no corresponding parameter for AIX that can be altered.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, do you know how to get around it?

Thanks in advance,
