Just to add my two pennorth...

We currently run all our databases in ARCHIVELOG mode. Archive logs are hived off to tape twice a day (short on disk space). We also mirror our redo logs to different disks.

We also have disk mirroring which has helped us to continue running through a disk crash before now.

This week I have implemented hot backups and it is good to know that I am secure, having read everyones comments. You read the books and know in your head that it's okay, but it's only reading about other peoples experiences that gives a feeling of warmth.

My only worry is that our archive log disk will crash _just_ before it is backed up and that a datafile disk will follow it. I suppose the odds are long enough to deal with this!
