Oracle Advise Needed?

Hello All,

I have been asked to participate in a steering committee to develop a database program allowing simple and instantanious access to all our worldwide locations and field personnel.

Please forgive my ignorance but I know nothing about Oracle. We have had a third party software development company working with us to accomplish our goal. They are leaning toward Oracle and have hosted some demonstations for personnel in our corporate office.

I would appreciate it if the users of Oracle and readers or this newsgroup would be kind enough to share with me your thoughts on Oracle as a product. I would like to hear both it's strengths and it's weaknesses. Remember we know nothing about Oracle.

To help you understand what we're trying to do. We would opening access to price and puchase history information. The data would be attained through various computer platforms. The database will be available to personnel in our manufactoring plants around the world and would also be available to field sales and support personnel working in the field.

Any guidance you can offer would be appreciated.
