                      Department of Entomology
                           Virginia Tech
     
     
     Programmer/Analyst
     
     As part of a large integrated pest management program,
     develop and implement, using programming tools such as
     Perl, HTML, CGI, and C, real-time interactive access to
     database and GIS products over the Internet using the
     World Wide Web.  Assist with continued data base
     development within an existing Oracle DBMS. Provide
     basic systems administration and support for Unix,
     Macintosh and DOS computers. Work with field-based
     personnel in implementing the above-mentioned data
     access environment.
     
     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Strong analytical, design, and
     programming skills; familiarity with
     networked/distributed computing environments,
     client-server technology, and UNIX programming; strong
     communication skills; ability to work well within
     teams; experience with DOS and Macintosh systems and
     with Oracle DBMS.  
     
     WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR:  Programming experience with
     HTML/WWW/CGI, C, and shell programming languages;
     system administration experience such as installing,
     configuring, and maintaining small sites; some
     knowledge of ARC/INFO GIS.
     
     This is a full-time position which is renewed yearly.
