There is a version of SQL*NET for both SPX and TCP/IP for Windows and DOS clients. However, you need to have the same protocol running at both the server and the client. You could not access an Oracle Unix server which was running SQL*NET TCP/IP from a DOS/Windows client with SQL*NET SPX installed. You would have to load a TCP/IP stack on your client PC and use SQL*NET TCP/IP.
