If you had to choose a database server for running Oracle7 RDBMS (clients would run quite probably on another platform), would you choose a 1-2 processor HP9000/G70 or an 4-8 processor Sun SPARCserver 1000?

The database server will be running a financials & order fulfillment package servicing about 200 concurrent users worldwide. The database itself will start at about 10Gb. This machine will need to be available for 24/7 coverage.

Sun/HP both report similar TPS but I put more faith into real-world experiences than benchmarks. Both expound they are the #1 hardware platform for Oracle (technically, they both are...HP is #1 in revenue, Sun is #1 in number of licenses). I've read each vendor's marketing type and both tell a similar story their tight relationship with Oracle.

...maybe we won't lose with either vendor...

If you have experience running Oracle7 RDBMS on either Sun or HP, I'd like to hear from you!

*Are you happy with the vendor? Sales/Service

*Anything technical that makes HP or Sun a superior
database server platform for Oracle like machine  performance (CPU, memory, I/O) or operating system.

*Your experiences with the quality of the hardware
 and software (HP-UX 9.04 versus Solaris 2.3)?

*Quality of Oracle7 RDBMS releases on your platform?

*Adequate database backup solution on your platform?

*Anything else you'd care to add...

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
