Eliminating the boxes aropund text

'm running Oracle 7. on Ultrix 4.3 operating system. Whenever I'm trying to design a form using canvas, I keep getting a box around the text thast I place on the canvas, for example, on the introductory canvas, I want to place the word Welcome, but a box is drawn around it....How do I get rid of it???
