Can't use DESCRIBE in SQL*Plus 3.1 for Windows?

Hi,

I just installed SQL*Plus 3.1 for Windows. Pretty nice, except that every time I try to use the DESCRIBE command, I get:

Object does not exist.

I get the feeling I overlooked something fairly obvious. Could somebody clue me in here?

I'm running SQL*Plus for Windows version 3.1.1.9.3B and Oracle 6 for NetWare version 6.0.36.1.0 (we're waiting for the Oracle 7 CD-ROM to show up).
