I guess it depends on the system you are on. Under Unix, most Oracle implementations I've seen let you build Motif or Open Look versions of the Oracle tools. (Forms 3.0, Menu 5.x).

If you would like to run character mode tools in a session window, then you will need to play with different terminal settings. This is done using the -c option for most all Oracle tools. For example, to run SQL*Forms 3.0 using an NCD X-Windows terminal, I would type:

           sqlforms30 -c ncdsunu

There a re a bunch of terminal resource files (all end with .r) and each one has one or more definitions in it. I've worked with supposedly "identical" versions of Oracle under Unix and have seen great variation in the names and contents of the terminal definition files.

My advice, get familiar with Oracle*Terminal (OraTerm) program.
