iconic push buttons

AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! This is driving me mad!!!
Can anyone tell me how to make a push button iconic ? I have looked at the documentation (that I have) and I just cannot get it to work.
I'm running 4.0.10 under MS windows.
Am I supposed to put the filename of the BMP eg. "\images\printer.bmp" in the icon name field (item property sheet) ? What's all this about the environment variable TK20_ICON ?
