PROC and RAW column problem

I have an array, unsigned char arr[8], of binary data which I need to store in a database column defined as RAW(8). Could anyone please tell me how to do this, ie what PROC external variable type etc. I am using Oracle V7, PROC V1.5, SPARCompiler C 2.1.
