I agree that none of the vendors can come close to realizing the performance of their TPC-A benchmarks. That is why I counsel my clients and seminar attendees to completely ignore them. However, this was the first ad which I recall that suggests that a RDBMS (i.e. Oracle) can support 10,000 users and 1,000 TPS running on a couple of low-end Unix machines. I think this kind of ad deserves special mention and attention both for its absurdity and its cynical nature. Does Oracle marketing really believe that they can publish these kind of statements without being challenged?
