Oracle 6.0.33.3.1 and RISC/os 5.01??

hi
yesterday i did a restore from a working oracle on MIPS RISC/os 5.42 to a machine running 5.01.
after starting oracle the process mutexd is using all the cpu even if no-one's using oracle.
after doing a relink with make -f link.mk as suggested by oracle technical support the database won't startup. i get an ORA-02725: osnpbr: cannot send break signal.
has anyone come across these problems? oracle are trying to track down a document relating to oracle and RISC/os 5.01. anyone got this? might it help?
