I've recently became a oracle dba by default at work because no one else knows any better and I have some basic questions.
- I'm trying to migrate from oracle v6.0.30.3.1 to v7.0.12.1.0. Approach I'm trying is seperately install v7 then import data from v6. The question I have is that when you make Full Database Mode export from v6, do I have to make a seperate export for each instances(ORACLE_SID's or databases) or will export dump every thing? And if I have to make seperate exports for each instances, how do I do it? In the manual I only see "Table Mode", "User Mode", and "Full Database Mode". I don't see anything regarding different instances.
If I make a mistake on importing wrong stuff to v7, is there any quick way of undoing the damage to start over?
What other things should I watch out for when I'm migrating through this Full Database Mode export/import method?
- I'm also trying to put some strict security access to rows and columns to tables for certain users. It seems like I can't only achiev this through creating views for now but I really don't like this method. There are too many tables I want to put restrictions to too many users in too many different combinations and I don't want to create zillions of views. I thought v7 would have better security measures on such things but it doesn't seem to have any. What approach should I take to resolve this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
