I was imformed by a hardware vendor that there was a problem with Oracle's generic port to UNIX SysV R4 systems. Apparently Oracle's development team did not implement the use of shared libraties correctly.

The effect were memory leaks and enormous executables. To get around it they reverted to statically liked executables.

The information may be wrong but this was what I was told.
