 If you find out let me know; I just got the same thing with one of my  users trying to do a three table join...

   ERROR:
   ORA-01547: failed to allocate extent of size 3596 in tablespace 'SYSTEM'

 My SYSTEM tablespace is 25MB and only 6MB is used, so I find it hard to  believe its running out of space. I don't have the select statment yet,  so I can't try it myself.

 I wonder if its complaining about temporary space used for things like  sorting? Is your temporary tablespace TEMPUSERS, SYSTEM, or something  else? Mine is SYSTEM.
