This is a formal Call For Votes (CFV) for the formation of a new Usenet
newsgroup, comp.sys.stratus, as described below. The RFD for this
group was originated by Bob Wise (rmwise_at_apdev.mci.com) and was posted
in news.announce.newgroups on August 4th 1992. Discussion in
news.groups in the ensuing 30-day period has been favourable, and no
significant objections to the group's name or charter have been raised.
The newsgroup will be constituted as follows:
Name: comp.sys.stratus
Status: unmoderated
Charter: Discussion of Stratus hardware and any and all software
that runs on it. Discussion will include Stratus
hardware badged by other vendors, including the IBM
System/88 and the Olivetti CPS-32 lines, and will
include the VOS, FTX I (SVR3) and FTX II (SVR4)
operating systems and applications executing over those
operating systems.
Vote addresses:
"Yes" votes (in support of the formation of comp.sys.stratus as
described) should be sent to
stratus-yes_at_pyramid.com
"No" votes (in opposition to the formation of comp.sys.stratus
as described) should be sent to
stratus-no_at_pyramid.com
You may change your vote at any time before the expiry of the
voting period by simply submitting a new vote. The last vote
to be cast by any given individual before the end of the voting
period will be counted; earlier votes cast by that individual
will be discarded.
Vote format:
Votes should carry a subject line confirming the voter's
intent, either "I vote yes on comp.sys.stratus" or "I vote no
on comp.sys.stratus" as appropriate. Variations in subject
line format will be accepted as long as the intent is clearly
expressed. If the vote carries an empty subject line the
message body will be inspected for confirmation of voting
intent.
Votes sent as replies to the CFV:
Votes sent as replies to the originator of this CFV
(moliver_at_pyramid.com) will be counted as "yes" or "no" votes
according to their subject line or message body.
Ambiguous vote resolution:
Ambiguous votes -- those whose subject lines do not make clear
the voter's intent, or whose subject line clashes with the vote
address -- sent to either the vote addresses or the reply
address will, where possible, be returned to their senders for
clarification. Ambiguous votes which can not by returned to
their senders or for which no clarification is provided will be
identified in vote mass acknowledgements and in the final vote
tally.
Voting period:
Votes will be collected for a period beginning when this CFV is
approved for publication in news.announce.newgroups and ending
at midnight on Friday October 2nd 1992. Votes arriving at the
voting addresses or the reply address after the expiration of
the voting period will be discarded.
