Hi, everybody,

I need your opinion and experience about the reporting tools are used for ORACLE which running on UNIX systems(SUN OS and AT&T SVR4). I used SQL*ReportWriter(V1.1) and SQL*PLUS(V3) for about half a year. Last month, I used and evaluated SQR for 3 weeks.

To make a right decision to choose tools, my concerns are:

  1. The speed and the usage of resource(the memory in general speaking). What are the differences between SQR and SQL*ReportWriter?
  2. The ability to make very complicated reports(complicated pre-printed government form). It seems to me, by using parent-children group relation concept in SQL*ReportWriter, I can make some pretty complicated report. But in some situation, I can not overcome the problem of print direction inconsistence between parent and children groups.

How about SQR? By just reading the whole menu, I can not   figure out its ability to print blocks which located   side by side.

  3. What about SQL*PLUS? I feel it is very easy to write simple   reports by using SQL*PLUS, but I can not find a way to   implement multiple levels master-detail reports. How can I do   that?

   4. PRO*C, ORA*Perl(a public domain software) or other    alternatives? Received on Fri Mar 13 1992 - 22:29:09 CET
