Regarding to bold, italic, etc., I remembered Oracle Reports has some package starts with SRW. I don't have the tool with me right now, but, thought that it was SRW.SET_ATTR, SRW.ATTR.MASK. You might want to look for the online help with these keywords. Hope this help.
