Forms 6i Query problem

Hi,
We have a master-detail form set up tab style. The master query on the first tab works fine, also populating the detail items on the second tab. The problem is when we navigate to the detail form, press F8 to enter query. The first keystroke in each item disappears and has to be re-entered. I have looked at all the triggers and turned off 'Fire in query mode' in everything that looked like it didn't need to be on.
Any suggestions?
