Christian,

Oracle has long supported multimedia storage as well as reference to external multimedia. As of Oracle8.0 the 'Inter[net Multi]media Family' has been included in the license of the database. Depending on the version of Oracle you are interested in, look at

Oracle8i: Oracle Intermedia (includes Oracle Intermedia Text) Oracle9i: Oracle Intermedia and Oracle Text

Useless history: [Oracle Text >specification< is derived from Oracle Context which itself has a heritage back to Oracle 5.1 (SQL*Text). The graphics seems to be derived from the Virage graphics cartridge, the audio is an offshoot of Oracle's Video Server group. Unfortunately we seem to have lost the native VRML capability which was closely tied to the Oracle App Server version 4.0]

Go to http://otn.oracle.com/products/content.html and drill into the · Oracle interMedia & · Oracle Text links (under Database) for discussion and general documentation.

Go to http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/content.html and drill into the · Oracle interMedia & · Oracle Text links (under Database) for demos and tutorials.

Go to http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/content.html and drill into the appropriate version of the database to get at a lot of docco to support this. Happy reading!

Leveraging the 'Read-Only tablespace' capability, you might be able to fulfil your WORM requirement as well. Need to talk with Oracle about this, though.
