In the documentation directory of the installation disk / download structure exists a very good step by step instruction. By following this documentation the installation should be no problem.

You have to do several steps before you can install the database on UNIX (Linux):
- download an OS patch if necessary

  • create group (dba) and user (oracle) who owns the oracle stuff
  • setting the environment (ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, LD_LIBRARY_PATH,...)
  • etc.
