Is it true that declaring fields or variables of 32bit (long) preformes better?

If I wish to define a numeric field in table or a numeric variable that should have maximum
length of 4 digits, Is it better to definr the filed or variable as 8 digits (long datatype) for better preformance?

I heard that since the cpu works with 32bit units it is better to work like this. Received on Fri Sep 21 2001 - 21:52:15 CEST
