Backup with RMAN and external MML

Hello,
we want to backup a giant database using the oracle rman tool and Syncsort's
BackupExpress which controls a tape changer.
From within the GUI of BackupExpress I see a retention period of 32768 (days) for our rman job, but because of the fact, that I did not define the job from within I am not able to change its retention period. Sure it could be done manually, (every week) but this is out of question.
So there must be something within rman/Oracle. Has anybody any idea?
