Database Oracle 7 open with 8.1.6 client

Hello,
I'm currently using PHP 4.0 on windows NT to access in different oracle servers (one is oracle 7 database and the second one is oracle 8).
I must access at the same time on a Oracle 7.3 and an oracle 8.0.5 database.
With PHP4, the client 8.1.6 is required to access on Oracle 8.x.x database but with this version i don't manage to open my oracle 7.3 database.
Do you have an idea to solve the problem ?
